River of Golden Dreams Pedal & Paddle Combo
Experience the best of both worlds with our River of Golden Dreams Pedal and Paddle Combo Tour. Our combo tours begin and end at our Whistler Village location and combine a paddling adventure with a bike ride to and from Alta Lake along the leisurely paved Valley Trail or more-advanced single track mountain bike trails.
On this tour, you will pedal to Alta Lake on one of our mountain bikes, then paddle across Alta Lake, through the Whistler Wetlands and down the scenic glacial river aptly-named ‘The River of Golden Dreams’. Your bike will be waiting for you at the end of your paddle for you to explore some local mountain bike trails before riding back to the village.
Choose to embark on this Pedal and Paddle Combo tour with your own private adventure guide on a Private Guided Tour, join in on a Guided Group Tour or take the plunge and explore on your own terms on a Self-Guided Tour (prior paddling and biking experience required).
*PLEASE NOTE: In late summer, typically from mid-august onwards, the River of Golden Dreams runs at significantly lower levels and there is a mandatory 600 m portage along the river.
Short on time? We offer the River of Golden Dreams Tour and Valley Bike Tours individually.
Prior paddling experience is required for self-guided tours. A rescue fee of $75 per person applies.
All prices are based on a minimum of two persons. Group pricing: 6 or more people. Child pricing: 12 years and under.
All guests are required to sign a legal release of liability waiver before participation.

What to Bring / What to Wear
We recommend you wear clothing that you could get wet, as well as a hat, sunglasses and close-toed footwear that can get wet. It's always a good idea to bring a waterproof jacket or a warm sweater as the mountain weather can change quickly - even on sunny days! It's also a good idea to pack a towel, a change of clothes, sunscreen and a snack.
For biking, we encourage our guests to bring a hat or bandana to wear underneath the helmet for comfort/hygiene. Have your own gear? You're welcome to use your own bike/helmet on the tour if you prefer.
Don't forget your camera to capture your adventure! You can store it safely in a provided dry bag when you're not using it.
We ask that you please bring your own reusable water bottle - we're working to reduce plastic waste. Did you know that Whistler has some of the cleanest and freshest tap water in the world? Our alpine-fresh water supply comes from beautiful Rainbow Lake which is fed by ancient glaciers. However, if you require, bottled water is available for purchase at our Village Office.

“We have done the pedal and paddle tour (mountain bike and kayaking) which took us roughly 4 hours… The moderate difficulty was perfect for people who had done kayak and biking once of twice in the past couple years. Chris was an awesome guide and really made sure we were prepared for what was coming (currents in the dream river can be tricky to navigate) on top of being knowledgeable and really interesting. Discussion went from Whistler and it’s surroundings to other topics as he seemed fit!”

“Our family really enjoyed this trip! Starting with a bike ride down to the lake through woodland and not on too many roads the trip was very organised. Once on the lake in our kayaks we paddled across the lake to the river where the fun really began. The kayaking was challenging in places but we never felt out of our depth partly helped by our brilliant tour guide Kyle. As a guide he was very committed and well informed about the trip we were on and happy to give any extra info we wanted.”

“My son and I had a great time biking and kayaking the River of Golden Dreams. Our guide Britney was super informative. She was also awesome with doing most of the harder stuff with getting her feet wet getting us over beaver dams and the bit of portaging we had to do. We also happened to see a young bear eating along the shore which was very cool.”
